ACP Cancels Leadership Day
The American College of Physicians (ACP) has made the necessary and responsible decision to cancel its Leadership Day 2020 advocacy event, originally scheduled to take place in Washington, DC, May 12-13. ACP’s decision is based on recent reports from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of rapidly escalating concerns about the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), and in recognition of the vital role of internal medicine physicians in diagnosing, managing and caring for their patients and communities on the front lines.
If you have already registered to attend Leadership Day 2020, you will be offered a refund for your registration fee. ACP will be in touch with additional information for those who have already registered about how refunds will be processed. ACP does not manage refunds related to individual travel costs. Please contact your travel agent or airline directly to discuss specific cancellation policies and refund information. In some cases, airlines may offer refunds with no cancellation fees due to travel bans. If you booked a room at the Mandarin Oriental, you will be responsible for cancelling your room at least 3 days prior to your scheduled arrival date to avoid cancellation fees.
At this point in time, ACP does not believe it will be feasible to reschedule Leadership Day as a face-to-face meeting in 2020, especially given the shortened congressional calendar that typically comes with an election year. We are exploring ways to virtually offer advocacy and issue training online and perhaps a virtual advocacy day. We will send out information later should we determine that this is feasible.

Leadership Day is the College’s annual two-day advocacy event in Washington, DC that enables our members from across the country to bring our issues of concern to U.S. lawmakers. This is a great opportunity for the College and our members to bring our policy priorities to Congress and try to influence the legislative process on behalf of internal medicine.
